Q: I am curious to try
Botox, but I am concerned I will have an unnatural look. Do I need to
worry?
A: In expert
hands, Botox can
provide a subtle but highly effective reduction in unwanted frown
lines, forehead lines, crow's feet and upper lip lines. It is also
possible to provide a nice eyebrow lift, a reduction in down turning at
the edges of the mouth, a reduction in chin dimpling and a reduction in
neck lines.
We do not relax any facial muscles that affect smiling or general
expressivity. The result is a softer, calmer and more youthful look.
Overall patient satisfaction with Botox is very high. |

Q: Isn't Botox a toxin?
Will it affect the rest of my body?
A: Botox is slowly
metabolized
by the body and when precisely injected into small muscles works only
where injected. Botox has been used safely even in children for over 20
years. Relatively small doses of Botox are used in cosmetic treatments.
There are no known long term effects. |

Q: Will I be
swollen or red after a Botox treatment?
A: In
most cases, no one
will know you have had a treatment at all! Bruising can occur but is
uncommon and usually minor. We use ice to minimize both discomfort and
swelling, but most patients are amazed at how simple treatments are. If
there is any redness from the injection, we provide post-treatment
touchup makeup for all skin tones free of charge. |

|
Q: Are chemical peels
painful?
A: In
general, patients only feel a mild stinging sensation during light or
medium chemical peels. After the procedure, the physician may prescribe
a mild pain reliever to relieve any discomfort.

Q: Will I be sedated during
a chemical peel?

most cases, no one
will know you have had a treatment at all! Bruising can occur but is
uncommon and usually minor. We use ice to minimize both discomfort and
swelling, but most patients are amazed at how simple treatments are. If

Q: Will my skin literally
"peel"?
A: Chemical
peels remove the outer layers of skin to reduce or eliminate the
appearance of a number of skin imperfections and conditions. After a
patient undergoes a skin peel, the treated layers of skin gradually
flake away, revealing a fresh new layer of skin.

Q: What are BOTOX®
and Facial Dermal Fillers?
A: There
are two
types of facial wrinkles: those that appear temporarily when a muscle
contracts during a facial expression, and those that are visible when
your face is at rest. The most common of the first type are the
"forehead furrows", the "worry lines" or "11's" between the eyebrows,
and the "crow's feet" around the eyes. A series of tiny BOTOX®
injections relaxes the underlying muscle that causes the wrinkle. The
effect will be noted within a few days and will last about 4 months.
The second type are static wrinkles or pitted scars and clefts that
occur do to loss of elastic tissue and collagen beneath the skin's
surface. The most common sites for these are prominent lines extending
from the edge of the nose to the corner of the mouth, and the
"marionette lines" extending straight down from the corner of the mouth
toward the bottom of the chin. These are better dealt with by the use
of temporary injectable skin fillers.

Q: Isn't BOTOX® a
toxin? That must be bad.
A: BOTOX®
is
a purified protein that is produced by a bacteria that has been in use
therapeutically by doctors since the 1960's. Doctors often use
medicines that are very useful in low doses that would be harmful at
high doses. Common minerals such as calcium, sodium, potassium, and
medicines such as digitalis fall into this category. BOTOX® is
given in miniscule doses, directly to the area that is to be affected
by it. When given in recommended doses, it is not detected in the
bloodstream at a noticeable level. When given for certain disease
states, BOTOX® can be given safely at 4 to 6 times the maximum
dosage that we would ever give for extensive cosmetic treatments.

|
|
Q: What does a
BOTOX® injection feel like?
A: We
use the
tiniest needles that you have ever seen, and with the small doses
given, you will barely feel the discomfort of the pin prick and a short
sting.
